Mix and Match

In using your home accessories like curtains, bed linens, sofa bed covers, throw pillows’ cases, placemats, etc., you can play with colors. Try mixing and matching with colors, shapes, and styles. It is also better to choose light colors like yellow, pink, sky blue, orange, peach, and other colors with related gradients. Combine them and eventually you can produce a spacious-like chic apartment.

You can also paint your storage boxes or cabinets with the designs you used in your bed linens or curtains. For example you are a floral lover person, you can design your cabinets with flowers and at the same time use floral bed sheets. Your room will look like extra chic and more organize because of the mixing and matching you did. So don’t be afraid to mix and match. Explore! Be Chic!

Make it Green

Do you have a plant in your apartment? I think only few put plants inside their homes. For me, I prefer having a plant or even a flower in a vase at home. It adds beauty and life! Aside from aesthetics, it also has some advantage. It absorbs bad odors. This applies especially when the tenants are smoking people. Having a plant inside your apartment can also reduce your stress. Based on some studies, color green reduces eye stress or strain. So if you got home tired, you can be quite relieved just by looking in your leafy green plant.

Pet Dogs Help

May 12th, 2008

Dogs’ sense of smell is very powerful. So if there are unknown people or persons who he thinks do not have a good intention over his master or his master‘s possessions, he will easily signal you. Pet dogs are of good help especially at night when everybody is sleeping. If you are a deep sleeper, might as well get a pet dog so that even you are not awake, there is someone who will be awake whenever there are emergency around like fire or other related things. With pet dogs, your apartment can be more secure. You can live and sleep soundly and safely.

Operation Security

The tenants in an apartment usually are not around. They are usually the busy people who just go home to sleep at night. In this case, the security is very important. Even your apartment is just small you must still prioritize the security in your place. We cannot trust anybody around right? Especially when we are living in a chic apartment which can easily catch attention, it is better to be really safe an secure.

Do not have a second thought in investing in expensive locks or security alarms. It is good that you are always ready with some instances such as robbery or some related issues.

Chic Living: Elimination

May 6th, 2008

61.jpg

The first thing to do is to eliminate the things that are not necessary. It is better to have a wide and clean place to live in than a crowded one. Try to start in your clothes. Choose the clothes you are not longer wearing. Put these on a garage sale or a rummage sale (this would be an extra income for you). Your old bags, shoes, and accessories can be of help to other people who cannot afford a new one. Donate the books, handouts, and notes that you’re not using any longer. Aside from saving space, you can also earn money. How good isn’t it?

Cheap but Chic

April 20th, 2008

A chic apartment isn’t always as affordable as one may think. Most of the people go for lower prices but satisfactory qualities. Here is a way to achieve a “cheap but chic” apartment: Re-use! How do we re-use materials and make them into chic designs?

Firstly, when you have friends or relatives giving you appliances, decorations, and furniture as gifts, then you might want to use them to save up money. Sure, these designs are not really necessarily your “style” but you can make them.

Second, use your creativity. Without creativity, even if you can afford all your needs, there would not be a “chic” apartment. Instead, it will just become a dump for beautiful and expensive things.

The couple claimed that they rely on gifts of friends and relatives. Recycled stuff from their primary family like furniture, decorations, and kitchenware can be “recycled”. These can still have a brand new look depending on how you use them. It is not important if you have new and expensive things. The important is you know how to manage and maintain the chic look of your apartment.

This dining area was designed by andrea. I really liked the chairs. They seem to be so comfortable looking. Another thing is the simple but beautiful wall lamp. Notice that this room is really warm and cozy. That’s the effect of the lamps. To get more info about the other designs, visit bravotv.com. (hahaha. I feel like an advertisement.)
What I don’t like about this room is the rug. I was never a fan of the color red. Blue or pink is better. But not red.

This figure on the other hand, is one of my favorites on matt’s designs. This is a hotel room design inspired by the element of water. It contains some transparent and reflective materials that represent water. This design emanates a feeling of serenity for the whole room, something I really need at the moment.
The only drawback is that these types of materials get dusty easily. If your apartment is in the rural areas, I highly object to the idea of copying this design.

The figure above is a sample of Andrea’s work. This was the last design she made since she got eliminated in this episode. This was inspired by the elle décor magazine. But I prefer andrea’s version. The French doors turned windows is a nice accent for this living room. To imagine, this room costs less than seven thousand five hundred dollars.
When designing your apartment, you do not need to buy lavish and expensive things. You only need to be aware on which things can complement your apartment.

The contestants in top design that I really liked were Andrea and Matt. Andrea is an architect but always makes a chic and elegant design in minimal spaces. She inspires me to be elegant and sophisticated in terms of designing my apartment. Matt on the other hand, is the shows winner. He provides classy but practical designs in his works. If I was given a chance, I would like them to come up with a modern and sophisticated look for my apartment. But that’s just wishful thinking. How I really wish.
